My brand new Henry Hoovers red "rocker" switch is stuck flat and flush with the Hoover.
Red light is on and speed is high. I cannot do anything with the button pressing has no effect
I need help before I am sucked up.

The red switch is a plain rectangle with a light only the on off hasa toggle ability

Maybe you have one of the single speed models.....this is a post on a forum i found :

I thought that the 2 speed version had been banned under EU energy saving twaddle?
Banned but you can still find people selling them.

  • Max effect 900W
  • Dust re-emission shall be no more than 1,00 %
  • Sound power level shall be less than or equal to 80 dB(A)
  • Operational motor lifetime shall be greater than or equal to 500 hours.

Actually its the other way around as far as I know -in that the EU banned the 1 speed and its 1 full power. In order to comply with the stupid rule the it cannot be at full power by default so when you turn it on the default setting is low power and to get higher power you have to flick the rocker switch every time you use it. I never use the low power setting and the full power is not as good as the old henry - so I take longer vacuuming - and use the same energy as I did with the more powerful older one.

The belief of having a higher wattage vacuum cleaner doesn't mean it'll clean faster. I'm glad there are rules in put place.

Yes it was or is a sales gimmick but not in the case with henrys. The lower power meant less suction

I had a 600w version; ok for a housewife but when you're clearing out a cavity wall or similar you need those cubes. If you have a 1200w dual speed it's easy to bypass the low power start and proceed straight to full throttle. I think there was some talk of a vacuum "tool" as opposed to a vacuum "cleaner" being exempt from the rules.

I think to try and counter the lower power they tapered the hose -- or something. So it takes you longer to hover and stuff gets stuck in the hose - EU Stupidity at its best.

My domestic vacs have more than enough power, and variable speeds. Most of the time they are used at 50% or less, otherwise they suck up the carpets and pull themselves onto the floor.

That's the trouble with one power you need big muscles to work on a carpet when Henry is set on devouring it. It would have been nice if the one power option was advised before purchase
