NEW INDESIT ELECTRIC HOB OVERHEATING

I've just replaced an old electric hob with a new Indesit one (a standard electric hob, not ceramic or induction). But the whole hob unit gets extremely hot when in use (not just the hotplates). So hot that you can burn yourself on it.
Anyone got any explanation or ideas please?
