Hi,

I have just finished installing some new lighting circuits at my mum and dads house It was started before new year and was finished last month. My dad is worried that much of the cable has 2005 printed into it. How can we prove that it was all installed before part P came into force?

Also, i am thinking of getting qualified as an electrician for domestic installations but I cant work out which courses/exams I need to take.

Thanks

Keep the receipts. :)
Seriously, this will only be investigated if someone complains that the installation is in some way defective.
Is your dad likley to shop you if the lights go out?
Even if you had broken the new rules, if you can get away with it for a year, with no family member turning you in , the council can no longer try to prosecute, as the work is then fait accompli, and even if that did happen, that would only be for kitchen and bathroom lights, and then only if it clearly did not follow the routes of the original cabling, as otherwise you could claim like-for-like replacements..

Sleep easy, the charges won't stick...
PS and if it ever does well be so damn busy shaking hand with friends when we are all inside we wont be worried a bit :D

Hi,

He seems to think that he has to make a declaration when he sells the house that he has not done any electrical work after 2004 that is covered by part P. Since he has reciepts from last year and this year he should be able to provide enough evidence that it is not covered. It is all installed to regulation anyway, it is certainly better than twisted cables cemented in and bell wire to home made wooden lights. That is why it annoys me, it seems to be encouraging people to leave dangerous wiring in.

Thanks
