New PVC back door - opinion on sealing job

I had a new PVC back door installed today, along with all of the windows being replaced. Tomorrow the same firm install a composite door and side panel.

I'm not sure what to make of the quality of the sealing around the back door. I'm not sure I'd be happy if the same is replicated on the front door as it's obviously much more visible.

It's the same on some of the windows as well, but they are less obvious than the door. I understand the sealant has to be put on thick, but I'm not convinced about how well it's been done. Am I over reacting or is this just how they are done? Presumably this has been done by using a finger, rather than any kind of specialist tools.

Not great but looks ok to me.

It's been applied by the gun but not been smoothed down.

I could have done a better job with a hammer, it will keep the rain out but Jeez! And what's with all the silicone the Gorilla's have managed to smear all over the brickwork?

xr4x4, you serious? Is this how you'd leave a job?

No I wouldn't leave it like that and no it's not a sign of my work.

In my opinion the silicone on the bricks is old silicone and I wouldn't remove it unless asked and/or charged.

Why couldn't they just do this to begin with?!

Really pleased with it now though.

Think personally the beading is the way to go anyway but most don't use it.

It also doubles up to protect the sealant behind from the weather.

We also have had some UPVc doors and windows fitted recently and not finished off by the supplier (it's a hassle to get them in again due to a fractious relationship)

The doors are grey outside/white inside. There is foam filler used to plug the gaps between brickwork and frame and I wanted to know how best to finish off the work so it looks good.

I'm thinking of buying something like this:

http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-PVCu-White-Cloaking-Profile-30x2500mm-Pack-5/p/162618

and spraying the trim with grey spray to match the frame.

Then planning to cut back the excess foam filler and fix the trim against the frame and butt up to the wall using glue/silicone.

Is this the right approach?

If it's dark grey (anthracite) then pop along to a local eurocell, they should keep this in stock

Is it antracite grey pvc profile? If so go to your local pvc supplier, is there a Eurocell near you?
