Hi,
Our hallway radiator burst on Christmas Eve - it’s the second time it’s had a leak so I reckon, as it’s from the 70’s, it’s time for a new one.
I’ve fitted radiators before and done bits of plumbing so I reckon I can do it.
The wife wants a smaller radiator but a double so we get the same heat - this will mean the pipes will need moving.
This wouldn’t normally be a problem but if you look at the photos, they seem to come out of the skirting.

This is the wall between the hallway and the living room - the floor boards go right under the wall into the living room.
Is it likely that this is fed from the living room radiator and I’d need to create a new feed and return from under the living room floor?

1, It is likely the hall radiator is fed by pipes tee'd off those which feed the living room radiator.
2. You have two choices:
2.1 Go under the floor and alter the pipes so that they suit the new radiator. You could probably bring them straight up through the hall floor rather than have that "through skirting board" look.
2.2 Use the existing pipes with some additional pipe and fittings to suit the new radiator. Not so nice to look at but easier to do.
3. You need to select your new radiator first and work out what is the best option.
4. Don't forget the pipes for a double are likely to be further away from the wall than a single.
5. You can get radiator extensions in various sizes to make up minor differences. Try and avoid using telescopic extensions as they have a reputation for leaking.
