I've had a heating engineer out today to replace the regulator pcb after he identified that was the reason I wasn't getting power to the 2/3 gas valve of c&m britony combi 80 which meant the heating worked but took its time and only a trick of hot water from dhw.

The pcb wash changed and this solved the original problem, any amount of red hot water but another problem arose, no central heating. The fan doesn't come on and the pump doesn't run.

The engineer but the original pcb on as a test and everything worked again, albeit on 1/3 burner only.

How often do you get a dud new pcb.

Check there's a jumper link on P Max or P 1/3. It sets the heating output to maximum or 1/3 power.

I think that Geof has come up with the cause.

Although I think the heating is settable at 1/3 and 2/3 but never on 3/3.

The hot water modulates only across 1/3 and 3/3 if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the replies, I've phoned the engineer and he said that he said that he checked the jumpers on both the new and old board when he swapped them back over to retest. My only niggle with him is that he could have put the old board in so we could have had heating and a trickle of hot water, but instead he left the new board in and we have no heating but any amount of hot water.

He did also mention that even in 1/3, the boiler would still react in ch mode and call for the boiler to start its routine but the boiler does nothing unless I call for dhw

The new board comes Wednesday so the extra blankets are out and thank god the gas fire belts the heat out
