hi guys, just had two new tyres on the rear today. the guy showed me the one he'd removed and it appeared to be worn on the inside edge with the feel of uneven lumps and bumps, he said "mate looks like your shocks gone "! any other ideas that may help or is this correct ? any help most apprieciated in advance.

Yes probably shock, but get your wheel angles checked as well.

Most tyre shops will have laser alignment/tracking available.

Usually when the tyre is excessively worn on the inside it is a sign that the tracking is "toed out"" on that wheel/axle.

Or you have a suspension joint with excessive wear.

So my advice, get it checked out ASAP.

I'd just like you to be aware that rear tracking is very much more difficult to set than front, and I personally would be looking at a specialist to set this, rather than a tyre outlet.
Of course, the worn tyres could have started life on the front, and maybe swapped to the rear recently.....!
John :)

on certain cars the camber on the rear cannot be adjusted,so i would defo get a geometry check carried out.

Was it almost worn on the rest of the tread and worn out on the inside, or did the tread towards the outer edge have loads of depth left? If it was the former, some cars just do that anyway - especially if carrying heavy loads in the back or towing very often. Also, as has been said, were those tyres always on the back? IF it as the latter, then yes, there could be something wrong with the rear suspension. Does it look like its sitting low? IF so, the rear springs / dampers could be the problem.

when a tyre fitter says "mate looks like your shocks gone " he is about to rip you off. its a good earner and a quick easy job.

nah not this one ! i know him and he only does tyres !+as someone said in the post its not to say it aint bin on the front before i got the car ! :D

Excuse my ignorance, is that the one with the 5 cylinder Volvo engine? That came straight out of the old 850
