Hi there i hope someone can help me narrow down the problem on my new shower installation. The bathroom was extended to put in a shower enclosure. The drain runs 2.4m (1.5" pipe) where it joins the bath drain (2"), which runs a further 1.5m to the outside wall. The shower drain backs up I think due to air pressure. The slightest use of a plunger immediately solves the problem and the drainage is great for a few minutes. Then the pull of the drain reduces and the swirl slows and eventually stop as it starts to back up again. Also if I fill the bath and drain it while running the shower, the shower drain problem is solved for as long as the bath is draining (the bath drains fine by the way).
Can anyone offer any advice? Is it because the shower drain run is too long before it gets to the outside wall and if so is there anything I can do to remedy this? I've heard a 'vented drain' might help but I can't find much info on this or how it could be fitted to a shallow shower drain.
many thanks
Ade
