New washing machine - dishwasher tingling

Dunno if this is the right place but wouldn't mind some late night advice. We had a new (but 2nd hand) washing machine put in about 4 weeks ago. Thought it was leaking, father came over to check, couldn't see a leak, but commented as he put the machine back in place that he thought he'd got a little shock off the dishwasher (which is next to it). Normally put washing loads on before going out to work so after this we didn't notice water by time we came home, but realised today water is leaking from washing machine door and it runs along grooves in tiles to along front of dishwasher. Also realised that dishwasher gives constant tingly shock if inside metal is touched.

Turned circuit off, unplugged both appliances until we can get a spark out. Can anyone suggest if the issue might be in the circuit or an appliance? Dishwasher is about a year old and had no problems until this last couple of weeks (after washing machine brought in). Help appreciated.

Poss no earth in plug socket. Put plug into another socket to test.

Thanks - no extension lead or other nearby sockets and nowhere to easily move the dishwasher to, and no ways of testing without voluntarily shocking self again so will leave it to the experts. Do I need to worry about other sockets on the circuit while we wait for spark tomorrow? The socket that might be the issue is behind dishwasher on a spur so can keep it shielded from kids/animals.

Your electrician will be able to check the earthing.

Okay, brill - thanks. If that is the only socket affected, is the rest fo the circuit safe or not?

Not sure, it could just be a faulty appliance, it could be one socket, it could be a few sockets or it could be the whole installation. You need a sparky with a tester to come and have a look.

Righto. We had system checked and okayd when before we moved in so hopefully it's just the one socket. Will keep kids out of those areas until we get a spark in tomorrow. Thanks for the advice everyone.
