Looking for a new watch.

My old one (not that old really....) broke - the glass got smashed and the repair estimate is as much as a new one!

Like the look of the old one but in truth it was a bit difficult for me to read in dim light and the luminous hands were not very.

Also, the date is not perpetual, although I understand having this feature adds a lot to the price tag.

So I'm looking for a fairly large watch (the 8475 is 42mm), day & date, easy to read, good luminosity and solar.

I prefer an ordinary strap as opposed to a bracelet.

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

Like the military watch, not sure about the acrylic glass.

they do a sapphire one, but strangely expensive.

they also sell a little tube of acrylic polish, so you can buff it up.

the acrylic is supposed to be resistant to breaking in rough use.

I love my watches, to many to mention but most expensive is my brietling B1, bought it 15 years ago and probably worth 2k retail now, I also have thick wrists so need at least a 50mm case, for that reason I have a few invicta watches, if you like your diver style watches then they're worth a look, if you want a cheapy watch for work then try 'mini in the box'

Apparently wearing a watch is no longer trendy, you use your mobile.

only if you're under 65.

Now, to my mind, this

is unsuccessful as a watch (meaning a thing you carry with you and glance at to tell the time).

A simple uncluttered dial, with two distinctive hands, and maximum contrast (black on white, or possibly white on black) is fastest to read accurately, even with a momentary flick of the eye.

And because of the way the hands move, a round dial.

Any part of the face-side of the watch that is not taken up with the dial and hands is wasted.

Some of the biggest names in the watch trade don't market watches, they market jewellery. Or gadgets.
