New worktops and gas hob removal and refitting

Asking for a friend who's just had her worktops replaced, from what I can gather it was a bloke who I'm assuming was the joiner/carpenter and a younger lad pressumeably a cash in hand helper, I think I already know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway, this guy or lad one of them needs to be gas safe right?

I'm a upvc guy but have pretty good carpentry experience too enough to be able to fit my own kitchen a few years back but I got a gas plumber to connect the hob, I cut the hole and he fixed it down and plumbed it in so I know I did right but for this friend I'm asking the question should she ask for his gas safe number because neither of us think he'll have one

And he's made a right hash of the job of fitting them as well

Yes, afraid so, proper testing is crucial.
