I had a stud wall put up in a bedroom of a new house I moved into.
I had the walls plastered and then sealed the plaster with some watered down Dulux matt paint.
I then proceeded to paint the room with Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt. On the 2 walls that were recently plastered the paint went on like a dream. Great finish!
On the 2 walls with the pre-existing surface I have had a nightmare. The initial coat basically wouldn't cover. Almost like it was pulling away and not forming a continuous film over the surface.
Once the problem coat had dried I sanded the whole wall with 80-grit and then sugar-soaped and rinsed.
I'm still having problems. This time the paint goes on fine but if I roll over earlier paint where I've cut in with a brush before rolling, the roller is moving the earlier paint to leave unpainted surface.
I wish I'd just had the whole room skimmed! At my wits end now as it's my daughter's room and I'm under a bit of pressure to get it done so carpet can be installed.
I'm tempted to Zinser BIN the entire walls but I've never used BIN over entire walls before. It'll be expensive and the room will stink.
Is this the only effective solution?
