No header found in 7ft opening into family room.

I am redoing my kitchen and have a colonial that had attached breezeway/garage on side house.
A prior owner closed the breezeway and made it into a sunken family room. The opening in the kitchen to this room is a little over 7ft wide. this opening is parrelle with joist and hasbeen their for over 12 years if not more.

To my surprise when I removed the ceiling I see no header just floor joist and 2 stacked up 2x4 that was drywalled around to frame out the opening . This is an exterior wall with a 2nd floor over it. no issues that I see but how is this being supported ?
