Can anyone help me please and I have little idea as to what i'm oding :). I have hot water but no heating. British gas can't get to me til tuesday :( (so much for 3* cover...)

The three way valve thing doesn't appear to be working (but this could be a red herring!). There is a leaver on the bottom but if I move it it just returns back. I've disconnected it from the power, etc and it settles into the middle and the AB port/pipes heats up. However if the boiler isn't burning no heat passes into the rads. To overcome this i've unhooked the 'stat that's strapped to the tank (assuming that the bolier will keep burning and therefore water will flow, etc...)

Is this a good/bad thing to do?????

bad, the stat is there to say its hot enough, what happens if it gets too hot? why not turn it up

Humm, tried that with no obvious results. I'm manually controlling the temp at the moment...

Does the lever on the valve still have a spring return when the CH is on?

The lever should stay in the CH (or Manual) position if you lock it into an indent that is on almost every (if not all) valve.

Can you describe the three way valve? Any identifying marks?

For HW the valve does not move> For HW and CH, valve goes to mid position> for CH only vale shuts off the HW side.

DO NOT DISCONNECT anything. You have already demonstrated bad logic in identifying the problem. So leave connections and power well alone until you get a positive answer.

Turn hw stat up but boiler stat right down to control hw temp to something reasonable. Latch 3 port on MAN (= ch + hw) setting so the rads get warm too.

Thanks Chris - I've just got under the valve and can now see how to lock/latch it into the middle. I couldn't figure out how it could be 'fixed' before... Thanks again.

No marks or anything obvious, other than a CE mark. I did put it all back as I decided that disconnecting stuff wouldn't really help. It's now locked into CH+HW (thanks to ChrisR) so we now await British Gas... ( This was fitted by British Gas about 2 years ago..)
