Hello today I did a quick 2 hour job for someone. Eight hours later!

They had a leaking pipe on a rad, drained the system changed the pipe to the rad filled system again and could not bleed upstairs rads and found the header tank level was not moving found a blockage just before the pump, cut the pipe and sorted that problem.

Bled the rads evrything was looking good

Turned heating / water on, the boiler fires up then closes itself down, keeps doing on this about five minute intervals.

My first thought was air so went and checked all the rads and vent in airing cupboard no air. So I am now at a loss any ideas please.

Its a glowworm bog standard boiler about 20 years old.

Because of the blockage found I guess I need to flush the system, whats the best way to go about this. Could do with getting the damn thing to work first. :)

HarrogateGas, it is pumped heating gravity/hot water everything was working fine until I drained the system.

Kevplumb thanks for the unhelpful comment.

listen mate it wouldnt be the first time some herbert had stuck a pump in the so called gravity side

you want help ?

if not go post on one of the so called PROFFESIONAL forums

smart a**

BTW did you bleed the pump :?:

Kevplumb

I only answered the question about the pump working, you then called me a git ??????

Ignor him.........you said nothing wrong that i can see. Perhaps he's been working on an elm le-blanc today.

does how water heat up?

No still do not understand, enlighten me.

Harrogategas asked if the pump was working as it was the first place he would look. I replied yes the pump is working fine.

Hi Harrogategas thanks for your help, the water is not heating up because the boiler is only firing for about 30 seconds before it closes down. Before it shuts off there is a lot of banging clacking which I have always associated with air in the system.

you will need to get gravity circs going first. pull stat out off boiler and let it force its way around. dont leave out too long though.

and the last system i worked on with a similar problem had another pump under the toilet floor

And this gives you the god given right to call a poster on this forum a clever git? The poor guy, like a vast majority of posters on this forum, was only seeking some honest advise on an issue with a central heating system. He asked for this advise in a pefectly civilised manner, and got a totally uncivilised reply by yourself.
