We had to remove a radiator in order to allow some plastering to be done in the house. We removed according to instructions and seemed to have succeeded without problems. However we did notice that there was no pressure on the boiler. Water still came out fo the taps but it wasn't hot. The boiler started making a banging/creaking noise then, so we turned it off.

We have since realised that one of the valves was not properly closed, so we did that and restarted the boiler. Pressure has returned, but we don't have any hot water.

Have we broken the boiler?

I presume you are talking about a combi boiler.

The make of it would probably be helpful

It's a Worcester, 240 combi RSF

We have tried running taps and turning the thermostat up so the radiators come on, but no hot water. We can hear the boiler lighting, just no heat.

What does the pressure gauge read?
Is the auto air vent cap loose like as wot it orta be? (sorry ou'll have to hunt for that , looks like a car tyre valve cap. Right on the top of the boiler I think (or maybe inside by the pump))

Pressure for most modern boilers should sit at around 1 - 1.5 Bar when cold, use the filling loop to pressurise the system, check the pump has been vented as this can stall/ jam the rotor and that any air removal device on the boiler has its cap open a touch also ensure any bleed points at the top of the boiler have been bled. If the heating is working normally then there is a problem with the diverter valve which changes the boiler over to hot water when a hot tap is opened and brings the flame up to full rate. When on hot water only the boiler should light up when a tap is opened and fire on maximum rate to heat hot water. If it does this and still no hot water it means that the boiler is not diverting the hot primary water through the heat exchanger to heat the cold mains supply to hot secondary water to your taps, a rpoblem with the diverter valve
Try the boiler on hot water only and check the result after ensuring it is bled and up to normal cold pressure, it is strange that removing a radiator should do anything but drop the pressure in the system if its leaking at a valve , if it worked okay before this concentrate on getting air out of the boiler as that would make the noise.
Good luck, hope this helps
