What do I need to ask for and how much will add to the cost of replacing a window?
I've got a 1940's council built house, which I understand does not have any lintels in the outer skin above the windows, being originally designed for stout wooden frames. The house now has UPVC and one of them needs replacing. The brickwork above the front ground floor windows has clearly moved a little, but was re-pointed by the previous owner and has not moved in the last year. On the first floor there is only two courses above the windows, and these are basically just sat on the window and held there with the sealant, and would clearly all come down if you tried to remove the window. Hence, while im yet to tell the window firm, I suspect the most sensible action is to put a lintel in while we're at it. Looking at what lintels there are, I think I want an 'L shaped' one which you then wont see from the outside. £60 seems about right for a 2m span?
Anything to add to that?
