Today we ran out of LPG gas, while using the gas hobs and the boiler. A few hours later, more LPG was delivered and changed over for us, now the gas hobs work fine, but the pilot light on our boiler will not light at all.

We already have someone booked to come and look, but thought I'd post here as well just to see if there's anything else I could try.

I have removed the lower front panel (just slides off) to reveal the gas valve (Honeywell 4700E) button and ignition/spark button. When I hold down the green button, I don't hear any hissing of gas. While holding it (for a long time) I press the igniter (a lot of times) and I see the little sparks through the inspection window but the pilot light doesn't come on at all.

I suspect allowing the LPG to run completely dry may have caused some crud to get stuck in the pilot light jet somehow. I've also tried flicking the thermostat from 0 to High every few minutes, you can hear it click, but with no pilot light, nothing else happens.

The panel instructions say to reset the gas valve by pushing the green button 'towards the arrow' - I've tried this several times and nothing happens, should I feel a click or something?

Anyway sorry for the wall of text, and thanks in advance for anything you can suggest. I won't be trying anything invasive myself obviously as I'm paranoid about blowing the house up.

It is yeah, it's a 3 way rocker switch, currently set to 0. The mains power to the unit is also off, as per the ancient label in the panel.

CH engineer came out and got it started, just the igniter was sparking too far away from the pilot jet. He took the front off and got in there with a match. Sadly, although the boiler is now burning ok, it's just not producing very hot water so looks like time to replace anyway. Thanks for the reply Chris_W!

turn the thermostats up, that is what they are there for, a new boiler wont make any difference
Indeed . And a new boiler will take years to repay it's cost, despite the "increased efficiency"
