no space for grout

I live in France and our kitchen tiler was recommended by another extremely skilled and therefore busy tiler. We left him to it, leaving a few rectangular tiles in the design we wanted, and went away for a few days. We came back to find that he had taken our design literally, leaving very little space between the tiles. As they are the work surface we are wondering how to prevent food and spillages making their way into the very small tile spaces. Is there a sealant that we can apply to the whole surface, or short of starting again, are there any other ideas out there?

it needs grouting - no choice there. on a worktop it should be an epoxy grout too. Just how tight are the joints?

Dear TPT,

Thanks so much for your reply, although it's not what I wanted to hear. The tiles are really butted up very tightly; almost impossible to get grout in I would say. Is there not some kind of sealant on the market that would not only make the tiles look good, but would stop debris falling into the cracks?
