I have just bought a new house (my first so dealing with central heating is new to me!) and the combi boiler has started to make a strange noise. I can only describe it as sounding like someone with a very bad cold sniffing loudly!

It's an Ideal Mini Combi boiler, I'm told by the previous owners that it's 2 years old and was serviced just before the house was sold. It seems to make the noise intermittently and it doesn't appear to matter if the heating and water are on or off.
This morning the temperature gauge was at 50C and the pressure was at 2.8.

Do I need to be worried or do anything? The water and heating seem to be working fine at the moment. Thanks!

It sounds as if the filling valve is not closed properly or is leaking.

This has caused the pressure to be too high ( should be 1.5 Bar ) and to protect the boiler the pressure relief is opening to let the excessive pressure safely reduce by allowing system water to flow out of the vent pipe.

This is a serious problem and if it is allowed to go on for very long will produce sludge in the system and block the boiler.
