noisey cistern

Hi,

Having replaced both our bathrooms we now get an annoying clunk/bang noise from the pipework every time the cisterns on the toilets fill up, just at the moment the float stop rising and stops the incoming water.

It didin't happen before with the old toilets. We fitted cheap B&Q bath suites, so would the quality of the cistern internals have anything to do with it?

Are they fed from mains supply or the loft.
Did the inlet valve come with a pressure restrictor.
Does it have a threaded support bar if so is it in contact with the cistern wall?

sounds like a bit of water hammer?? a loose pipe some place?? try shutting down the isolation cocks on the mains water inlet to the toilet to reduce the flow and it might help a bit???

Turned the flow valve to each cistern a little bit and hey presto no clunk. Takes a little longer for the cistern to fill up but no annoying noise!

I have a slimline direct water main fed toilet cistern fitted with a Torbeck Side Entry valve that was causing a very loud hissing noise to come from a Vanity Unit located in a nearby room that is connected to the same 15mm cold water pipe. Every time the toilet was flushed there was 90 seconds of loud hissing which was a real nuisance at night. I tried using the HP high pressure flow regulator screw but it didn't make much difference. After I completely removed the Torbeck's flow regulator ( a two inch white plastic artesian screw) from the inlet pipe, the hissing noise was reduced to a very faint humm and the now toilet refills quicker as well.
Also be wary of using an external isolator to limit the flow because if it is not turned fully open it can also cause considerable hissing noise in the pipes.
