Hi,

I have a brand new Vaillant Eco Tec Plus 837 combi boiler fitted in my loft with a vaillant flue which goes through the roof on a flue tile.

The boiler works great and is running through a wireless thermostat.

My problem is at night. The boiler is situated directly above my head in the bedroom on the party wall and appears to be automatically firing up every 8-10 mins or so for about 30 seconds all through the night.

Is this normal? It's driving me mad. The heating is set to off during the night and no one is using the water so why is it starting up all the time?

Please help!

Thanks,

Lisa

They might have a preheat function for hot water which might be dissableable using something most manufacturers call eco, it is probably in what commonly called comfort mode, meaning hot water comes out of tap more imediately because the boiler stores a little hot water 24/7. To do so it keeps you awake and burns up hydrocarbons.

I don't know the specifics of vaillant. It might be in user instructions. Otherwise ask installer to set it out of comfort mode and into eco mode, see what he makes of that.

Also the joist and rafter A frame of a loft might resonate with a boiler mounted to it.

Look on the digital display. If there is a 'C' showing at the bottom, it has indeed been left in the 'pre-heat' mode.

Turn the DHW dial fully to the left and hold for a second, then turn back to required HW temp.

This will turn it off.

I assume that the rads are not getting warm whilst this is happening? If so the installer may have left the link between 3&4 on the pcb connected. This should only be left in place when using Vaillant external controls.

Hi Paul,

Yes it does have that! That's brilliant thanks, I've just read the manual and I need to go and check that it's not set to "C". The boiler itself is mounted on the party wall not a joist so shouldn't be that.

What a waste of energy, I can't believe it!

Thanks very much for your help.

Yes it was, well done you lot! thank you!!

Think my corgi guy is a bit slow! He didn't have a clue, was only familiar with other boilers!

many thanks

Hi Lisa

Just to add that 8-10 mins between cycles seems very likely you may have a dripping hot tap somewhere. Usually the re-heat of the hot water with no-one using it (ie. at night) occurs every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Have a check...

Turning warmstart off is fine though. With an 837 you will have speedy delivery anyhow.

Cheers

Thanks Bunny,

Will check taps. Bit worrying!!

Turned off the "c" thing and at least I can sleep at night now so that's one thing!

Many thanks
