Noisy central heating

About six years ago I had heating installed in my mothers house,I was not happy with the workmanship but let it go.Mother who is now 89 years old complained that it made a racket and woke her at night..er.. I let that go as well.I stayed the night over this christmas and was first woken up not by the boiler (directly below me)but by water roaring round the system so I shut the trv on the rad right off,all this did was make the roaring worse so I turned it back on and put up with it.
Boiler is a Ferroli Optimax 25c and 10 rads of various sizes on the system.
Had a look in the book with a view to reducing the pump speed and found it is three speed but turning it down will reduce the hot water capability,it is also in the casing where I'm not supposed to go.Also the installation calls for an automatic bypass to be installed not less than three metres from the boiler but there isnt one fitted at all.
Any comments or advice would be much appreciated.

Try and open all the lock shield valves by 1/4 of a turn and if it makes them quieter. Also makes sure they all still heat up.

By all means try as HERTSDRAINAGE2010 has suggested, but if the manufacturers require an auto bypass, it should have one. It may be a good idea to get the system checked out, and the boiler serviced if this hasn't been done for 6 years.

Thanks,boiler has been serviced yearly and the system drained and refilled (system protector added) about eighteen months ago when I had the kitchen revamped.I guess I will have to get a bypass valve fitted,any reason I can't do it myself ?.The only access to pipework now is to go 'potholing' via a trap under the stairs and crawl to beneath the kitchen where the foundations deepen to about three feet,nobody seems to want to work down there.

There is no reason why you can't do this work. My reason for suggesting a system check out was, that as you said you were not happy with the workmanship of the intallation, then maybe a qualified engineer should take a look at the installation as a whole, there could well be other faults.

You are right,I will get the boiler service guy (in his fifties and time served)to take a look.
