When the thermostat kicks in the hot water at 5am, there is whining and sound of water being pushed around for about an hour before it quietens down. This also happens when the CH is switched on. I had to check the heating as we've just moved in and I wasn't sure if it actually worked, being summer and all (well kind of). Can somebody please confirm if this is a pump problem, or perhaps lack of water pressure?? We have a boiler and hot water tank, cold water tank in loft. Used to have back boiler downstairs as far as we can gather. 
The lady we bought the house from said she had British Gas come every year (I think) to service the boiler.
