Hi there,

We've got an odd problem with our boiler, making very aggressive gurgling noises on the hot water circuit when at temperature (Not at cold), similar to that of a boiling kettle, however all is fine if the central heating is switched on.

Our boiler is an Potterton Suprima 30L, apparently with the new PCB inside as it has never locked out on us. The system is gravity feed, Y-plan with one mid-point valve and I've combined the cold feed and vents together onto the 22mm vent pipe.

Boiler in downstairs kitchen, airing cupboard on floor above, but with a long horizontal run to the water tank, and F&E and cold storage tanks in the loft.

We have fitted a new pump, the old one was clean but the windings had failed. I have filled and drained the system a few times, with clean water coming out. The F&E tank in the loft was yucky when we started looking at the heating system, and has been cleaned out and the system filled with sentinal X100.

The pipes in the airing cupboard are all behind plasterboard... however I have opened up some of the wall to verify the piping is correct, all 22mm pipe except the new defunct cold feed. The defunct old feed has a new auto air bleed valve installed to cap it off.

Am I looking at there being a restriction in the HWC somewhere? We always get hot water, and it is correctly controlled by the tank thermostat. Should I try some sentinal X400 and see if any sludge starts to get dislodged? The house only has 6 rads and 1 hot water tank to worry about.

Hope you can help

It could be blocked where the old cold feed comes off the domestic circ. Is the auto airvent working? As it might be blocked.
