My trusty old boiler ( not a person ) has started to make a lot of noise as the water heats up. It comes from the pipes around the top of the boiler, and can be heard around the house in the pipes. This has only started to happen in the last couple of months, though the boiler has been in since the year dot. Is there a remedy ? The noise is keeping us awake at night. :(

When was it last serviced? Can you describe the noise in more detail? Does it sound like a loud humming, or a kettle boiling, or something else?

Stick some fairy liquid in the system , noise will disappear within an hour.

Pottertons advice years ago. :D

Sounds like a kettle starting to boil. Last serviced 18 months ago

Old wives tale Dan. ;) , still got one with fairy in it from 30 years ago.

That is a joke. The chlorides will have a disastrous effect on the metals in your system, although it will quieten it down!!
Add some system silencer.
Gaswizzard you are a naughty boy ;)

Well 45 years , I tried the fairy trick 30 odd years ago in the hope of numerous call backs due to the fairy causing havoc with soldered joints , sadly no call backs.
