I have a Heatrae Sadia Megaflo CL210 system.

It regularly is noisy with a sound of either flowing water or pressure balancing. This happens on a random basis when the boiler is off and there are no taps open.

It is noisy enough to be heard in the adjacent bedrooms.

This is our first system like this so I don't know if it is normal (I doubt it).

Any suggestions?

have you followed the instructions on the side of the cylinder to recharge the air bubble?

if you go to heatrae sadia site it will give you all tech notes on it-easy to find

Thanks guys.

Have made the adjustments. We'll listen out for the noises but here's hoping.

Well apparently this morning our system continued to make loads of noise - almost as if the system was working but without the boiler being on.

So following the recommended maintenance has not worked.

Someone has suggested that there the system may not be correct electrically. Any ideas?

Does it sound a bit like a kettle heating up?

Is the immersion switched on?

Some development today.

SWMBO was in the house when the noise started again. It sounds like the hot water system is running although the water heater is isoltaed in the kitchen (well the switch is off). She then ttripped each circuit breaker one at a time until the noise stopped.

So it seems that the electrical part of the system is wired up such that it automatically comes on despite the switch (in the kitchen) being sett to off.

Persimmon house.

Perhaps that says it all.

Time to switch to the Electrical forum.

Thanks for the advice.

The system is still noisy when the boiler is off. A few other points which may help diagnose the problem:

1. We used up all the hot water but forgot that the boiler timer was switched off. The system then went through the noisy stage after which there was still NO hot water. So it is not a fault which is operating the immersion heater.

2. There is a Honeywell solinoid/motorised valve on one of the pipes going into the Megaflo tank. On the underside of the valve is a switch which if pushed from is normal position, when the system is noisy, stops the activity and the noise. However the switch slowly springs back to the normal (open?) position when released.

Could this valve be broken and as a result cause the system to continue to allow water to flow?

If the noise is only happening when the 2 port valve is shut, then it sounds as though it has nothing to do with the Megaflo.

It could, however, be that the system is either not wired correctly, thus shutting the boiler and/or pump off when it closes, or that you do not have an auto bypass valve fitted, or indeed even a manual by-pass fitted, or at least open.

The noise you can hear could simply be the pump trying to circulate but with no where for the water to circulate.

The noise certainly sounds like either a pump running or water flowing under pressure.

How do I know when the 2 port valve is open?

Also worth noting that the noise appears at times and goes away at times but appears when the timer is showing off for both HW and CH. So if the time varies what could be determining the fault to start/stop?

The lever on the valve that you have pushed to open, will be free to move about, ie no spring pressure to push against.

NOTE: DO NOT leave this manually open to solve your problems. This is also a safety device to shut off the heated water from the boiler overheating/pressurising the cylinder.

Get it sorted professionally asap ;)

Thanks Dave.

I cannot leave it open manually as it always returns to the same position however it has a lot of movement in it before anything is activated.
