Our Prima F boiler's getting on to be about ten years old or so and makes one hell of a racket when what I presume is the motor kicks in. The noise can be heard throughout the house and it rattles the flue in the alley way terribly.

Here's a video demonstrating the noise...

Does anyone know what might be causing this, what would be required to fix/improve this, and how much it should roughly be for parts and labour?

Sounds like the fan is on its way out but you need someone in front of the boiler to confirm, cant give prices as apparentely its against the forum rules to advertise.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Simple test to get a rough Idea. Get it making some noise, turn the thermostat at the bottom off the boiler all the way off, if the noise stops then it's likley the fan, if it doesnt then its more likley the pump, hard to tell from a video without watching it go through its full start up sequence.

A legit fan for one of these can be over £150, plus someone diagnosing and fitting could see you nearer £300

Yes the noise immediately goes away when the thermostat is turned off, so I guess it's the fan.

Is it worth getting a refurbished one? Any recommendations on where to purchase from with a view to just paying someone to fit it for me?

THere are plenty cheap on ebay, but there is no garuntee there fit for purpose new genuine items made by the manufacturer, at least if you buy off a know spares retailaer you should get a genuine part which a heating eng will be more cofortable fitting, altho if for some reason its not the problem or doesnt fix it then its your problem not the guy you pay to fit it. However these are simple boilers and going by what youve said it almost certainly will fix it.

As far as refurbished parts go its a gamble. If something goes wrong like above its not the guy fitting its problem, so you can end up paying multiple time to have it removed and reffited even with a warranty on the part. If an engineer diagnoses and supplys it will cost more, but you have a come back.

Depends what its worth to you really. and old boiler not worth spending too much money on, but generaly reliable little work horses those ones.
