Help with the unlock code, also do you need a Sin Card in to do this unlocking ??

It used to be that if you knew someone with a contract sim that the phone is unlocked to, you could just contact the airtime supplier for the code and they send you the code by text. I once unlocked half a dozen phones with my out of contract Vodafone sim but that was about 10 years ago!

So you are saying it has to have a Sim card in before you can unlock.

I have a PAYG card I can try, still need the code, can I do this without contacting EE as they take an age to answer ?

I've only done it for an old nokia non-smartphone which had no sim in it about a year ago locked to the defunt orange network.
All EE wanted about the phone was the IMEI number.
They also wanted my full details and then the unlock code and instructions for its use were emailed to me.
No sim card was required to do any of this

I expect they will want payment for doing this

Sorry whats the (the IMEI number)

My first time at doing this.

Each and every phone made has an unique serial number
this is is called the IMEI number.
On old non-smartphones you found it by taking off the back cover and then removing the battery and there printed on a sticky label inside the phone was a long number perhaps 20+ digits long which was labelled as the IMEI number (once you had got the magnifying glasses out to read the microscopic blinking thing)

On modern smart phones which have no back to remove and look etc instead somewhere in the settings pages there will be something like "about phone" sub-menu which when entered will somewhere show the IMEI number

On yes, and now I recall they also needed to exact make and model of the phone I was wanting unlocked I suppose as a cross check against the IMEI number I gave them.
