Non-standard size door

Hi,

I have to replace a bedroom door which is a non-standard size. 715x1920mm, give or take a few mm. Most of the doors in the house are six-panel grain effect moulded ones, this sort of thing, and it would be good to have one which matches:

Other sizes are available, but I cannot find one even close in size, and the Wickes ones say they are trimmable by 10mm -- I'd need to trim 50mm from the sides and 60mm from the top/bottom.

Any advice please?

Could I trim a larger amount off, pull the batten out of the trimmed-off bit, and re-attach it, for example? Any better ideas?

Yes you could.
You might also be able to buy a firedoor which has a more solid construction and could be trimmed

you can but it will look awful as you will only have perhaps 25-40 off timber effect on the face at each side
also the molding off the surface may even stop the timber strips being fully re-inserted

and the bottom "rail" is quite deep

Standard width but not standard height would be, my my reckoning, not-a-standard-size, no? That one is indeed the right width, but still can't be trimmed enough top/bottom, according to the site.

you can cut it in half if you wish but that exceeds the 10mm
the timbers down the edge will be around 35mm thick
your screws need at least 20mm to grip into

I mean that if you take the batten out (or have a replacement one) and re-batten it after cutting the skins, you can cut it by more than 10mm. These are very flimsy doors, mostly made of air, with a thin skin of soft hardboard each side to keep the air in place, and battens to hold the skins apart.

The 10mm they specify assumes that the old batten will still be in its original place.

Firstly - Put it in sizes most people understand

715mm = 28.1/4in
1920mm = 75.5/8in

You also have to consider the 'Lock Block' - how big it is; Is it timber or chipboard; will it move or can it be removed?

To be honest - having modified more than a few doors in the past, it can be done but I'd not want to modify a '6-Panel' door by that amount for the first door to modify. Nor would I wish to make those amount of mod's without access to a warm workshop.
