Norton is very heavy on disk resources and can really slow down a PC compared with other security software.
To remove Norton, DO NOT use the Add/Remove section in the Control Panel, it will leave traces behind. Instead, download the Norton Removal Tool from
http://tinyurl.com/6oq8f

Prior to removing Norton you should decide what you are going to use instead and download but do not install any replacements.

Check out the list of freebies that I posted here. Decide what you want and download and save to Desktop.

Remove Norton using the Removal Tool, then disconnect from the internet and install the new programs.
Reconnect and update and run the new software.

By definition, the free AVG will not be as good as the version you pay for.

I have tried all of the common virus removal programs, this in my opinion is the best one available....

hi m8
i would deffo go for NOD32 (although avast is good too) anti virus and outpost firewall, I,m sure one of the torrents would accommodate you !

regarding Norton, removing that nasty program can be a major problem even with the removal tool they supply, my advice would be to locate a nice little program called unlocker.

Just to follow up on this norton thing,i'me receiving reminders from norton nearly everyday that i need to renew, which i won't be doing....But one thing i have noticed in the last couple of days is the slow running of my lappy I.E. Slow running-won't load pages-goes off line in the middle of something-...i suppose it might be my isp,But i'me beginging to suspect it's norton playing games....Trying to make me believe that theres something wrong and soon as i renew it runs all smooth again?????

you have cleaned off all the spyware?

i removed norton and went for avg anti virus with anti spy,and i can't believe the difference it as made....With norton it was really slow at start up and when searching and loading sites, but with avg it gets on with it no messing,i've been putting up with norton since buying this lappy, just one question" there is a thing called "symantec pointing device" on the bottom task bar,is that anything to with norton?
