Hiya, found this forum while searching the net for a bit of information about adding new plug sockets to a room that has one. Im sure it is a common problem with a room with so much gadgets of modern living in it.
Basically currently there is one badly placed socket running two extension cables from it. I would like to add at minimum two more double sockets (both within a meter of the original socket) possibley more and another on the other side of the room. Making not only more sockets buts the them to be accessable as the current one is blocked off behind furniture. Now how go I go about doing this? Is it even possible? What do I need to know? Any adive would be hugely appretiated.

Also our flat is full of horrible hanging bad lighting, Im assuming this is reasonabley easy to correct but what should I know before I go out and by new light fitings? What will I need tool wise?

Thanks a lot for any help :)

When you remove the socket there may be two cables (with a live, a neutral and an earth conductor in each). If thats the case then the wiring diagram you need is here.

here

For your lighting wiring, your specialist tools will be determined by the fittings you buy.

i am sorry to disagree, i would suggest that it is not as simple as it may first sound, there is more too it than adding a socket here and there, may i suggest you get an electrician in (or several) to give you a quote

I did not suggest that this is an easy job for the unexperienced. Although I briefly answered your question, I agree with breezer that it may be best to use a contractor. The info I gave may help you do some of the labour work, cut the bill down and give you an appreciation of what the contractor is doing.

Then why didn't you say that in the first place? Call yourself a highly qualified Inspector??
