Hi
Due to being let down by plasterer, I've decided to have a go at skimming one 'wall' - the triangle shaped section in hallway where staircase is. Bottom half of existing plaster was newer than top half but gloss paint of differrent colours daubed all over the shop here and there making for uneven base for painting, plus holes and bits of filler.
Anyway, I've probably commited a huge sin by using finishing plaster direct to skim the whole lot. I probably needed to use PVA bonding first? Overall the finish is good but needs a bit more work and a lot of sanding down - due to my inexperience.
I enjoy the process of working with plaster. But how do you get that glass-like finish? Do need to use a special technique or is it a case of applying a 'water' coat overall at the end? Due you use a plasterers float for this?
Sorry for appearing ignorant about any facts, hope I've not offended any professionals out there. Just keen to learn and understand how to do the job for myself and get the results!
