First time poster here - Hired a roofer & the attached picture was his solution to the transition on the split level. Not liking this at all it is very visible from my deck. Perhaps it is practical, but was wondering how to pretty this up ? (And yes, the gutters are next on my list !!!!!)
Any advice would be appreciated they are not done yet and I would like to suggest a solution.

Hired a roofer why - a leak? For a laugh? To improve what was there? To keep up his supply of cowboy boots? It's a right **** up. This is a UK based site BTW.

Was an entire re-shingle. This was the only section that looks like this and I was looking for advice on a fix. Didn't realize that that that wasn't universal.

We don't use shingles over here. Very rarely they are seen on imported garden structures.

Weatherboarding on walls is sometimes used, regionally, but not common.

Very interesting to know. 95% of our Houses are shingles. Just thought it was same there too! They stand up well to our harsh winters in northern Canada.

Our tiles and slates usually need replacing after 80-100 years :(

Or at least a major overhaul.

Mr JohnZ, what you have is entirely wrong.
Search google for diagrams of soakers and cover flashings at abutments. In your case the cover flashing would be the siding.
The sheet metal soakers are installed on top of a lower shingle, and covered by each shingle that comes above in the next course.
The soakers have an upstand fin that goes up behind the siding.

To do a proper job, you will have to remove the lower lengths of siding, a certain amount of shingles and re-fix to properly to cover the abutment soakers & fins.
Where (& if) the abutment meets the gutter a kick-out will be needed.

Have you considered (or had) damp/snow ingress problems from the back of the abutment - there doesn't seem to be a cricket or a back gutter in position?

Thank You Vinn for your input I will do some research as you suggested and offer in it my requests to the roofer to fix it.
