Hi,

Does anyone know what oak decking is like or anywhere where youn get it from (I'm in the Midlands but can't seem to find anything on Google).

Many thanks for any views that can be provided,

Damian

i think oak would be bad for decking (though over people will be able to confirm or say im talking cr*p!)

Oak soaks up a lot of water and can swell easily

only time ive done oak decking was to do a rustic one made out of 4 x 8" oak baulks. Worked well but no way could you get it totally even

It's nearly all illegally logged in Croatia.

not the stuff i use, its all english and welsh, but the old iron curtain countries do seem to be doing a roaring trade in exporting timber to us

All,

Thanks for the replies.

I've heard that oak splits whilst it is still drying - would this mean that you wouldn't get the quality of finish on a deck?

Thermo - where do you source your English/Welsh oak from?

Many thanks,

Damian

i use a local fencing/timber manufacturer who source it themselves. It is not oak decking as in planks in the normal sense but rather with large baulks of timber. It does look nice but it will not give you the same evn surface that normal decking will.
