Oil boiler cutting out

Cuts out about once a day. Press the reset button and it's fine again. Services recently so I'll be calling out the engineer again, but just wondered what possible causes were. Something he should have spotted during service or not?

Dirty oil? flame sensor error?

Could be numerous things. Was it playing up before the service ? What make and model of burner is it? Get the engineer to return if it was operating fine before. Solenoids can be temperamental, as can pumps, etc.

Just call the guy back there is not one engineer on this forum that can say he has never had a call-back! these things just happen especially with the oily boilers, you can do a 1st class service and just because you have cleaned a component it will decide to faile a couple of days later, and whilst we try to foresee problems we don't always suceed.

thats so true. boilers and there components can be a little tempramental at times, give the chap a chance to come back and have a look, dont automatically blame him for a substandard service.

It used to cut out occassionally, now it's daily, but not every time it fires up by any means.
It's a Stirling 40 ST 108 PL

I'm not blaming him - just trying to get ideas before forking out more dosh!
Pressing the reset button from time to time isn't the end of world either, though it must indicate a problem.

Update.
Well, he never came back - said he'd call next time he was in the area but.......

Having said that, the boiler is now behaving perfectly. Whatever it was it's 'fixed itself'. Last cut out must have been, oh... 6 to 8 weeks ago.
