Is it good practise to put a bead of silicone (high temp?) where the glue connects to top of oil boiler? Thanks

If necessary improve the seal with some fire cement - or you could use automative exhaust Gun Gum. You didn't say whether your oil boiler is a condensing type. If it is, you may get away with silicone but, if it isn't, you definitely shouldn't use silicone - even high temp stuff won't stand the heat from a non-condensing oil boiler flue.

That looks like a Grant boiler/flue as I said above no need for any sort of extra sealant the factory fitted gasket all that's required.
We are Grant registered installer's and have fitted hundreds!

Thanks both. It is indeed a Grant

Next question..... the rope seal where burner fits into hole - what's different about a Grant part for 30 quid, and a peice you'd use on a word burner - prob a fiver max??
