oil central heating problems

My central heating will only come on if the red button on boiler is pressed what can this mean. i have had it serviced and a lot of red soot/soil removed.

thanks in advance of someone please helping..... :?:

By red button do you mean overheat stat? Have you checked the system pressure (should be between 1 and 1.5 bar). Have you checked the pump is working?

What make and model boiler?
Where is this button?

Read the sticky at the top of the forum listing and you'll see that this basic info is needed for accurate advise.
 
if you need to press the red button on the burner you have a prob,how long ago was it serviced,was the pressure checked,was the nozzle changed? bit more info needed.
