Out of interest,I work in the Oil Refinery and some of our tanks have heating coil to keep the products hot using high temperature gas oil for heating up to 180 C and so reliable, here me thinking, why don't they have it in the central heating system and combi sealed system instead of using water ? This would surely keep the system clean and prevent scaled problem ? or am'I missing something here ?

Water is cheaper, and has a higher specific heat capacity so it can transport heat better. As Masona says, bit of a bu**er when it leaks, and people DON'T look after their heating systems. I get a phone call when things break in general.

I use sodium hyper oxide wich is deliverd to my house via the green valve!!!!

Nuclear power plants often use liquid metal (sodium) as their heat-transfer medium. Perhaps this might be a good thing.

As an aside, those little electric radiators you get at Argos are oil filled and very economical and reliable. Perhaps you should buy a few and hook them into your combi. Let us know what happens!

Disclaimer: If anyone does try to connect oil-filled Delonghi's to their combi and burns their house down, they obviously shouldn't be allowed to handle sharp objects such as tools, so don't blame me!

I was once accused of going through a girl's knickers by her indignant boyfriend. I'd been working on the boiler but I HAD BEEN IN THE BEDROOM! I explained that I had to refill the rads with water so had to bleed the air out.
Then he said something like:
"Don't give me that wise #%"*, you smart ^">~&. I know this heating works on GAS".
