Oil leak.

Old peugeot engine has an oil leak.

Anyone any idea of what is causing it

It looks like a 1.6 hdi engine?
The leak could be from the breather at that end, a faulty rocker cover gasket or indeed a cracked rocker cover itself.
A bit more cleaning up and investigation needed!

Yes it is a 1.6 diesel engine.

I have the 2.0 HDi, and had a leaking rocker box cover gasket. Swapped it over for a new one and cleaned up and not seen any leaking oil since (in that area...)

Welcome to the party. I have a leak too. I compressed and warped the plastic engine cover with a crowbar in the past and it's not sealable any more. The air+moisture leak is also producing mayonnaise from the engine oil. A china cover from ebay will sink me for £85.

Take care - they break easily ( especially when using your favoured tools )
