i remember song lyrics which describe places unknown to me....
(overlook the spellings please)
Loch Lomond....real?
see your cliffs?
see a real english country garden...like in the pictures
those little shortbread cookies....the real ones

while, I'm here, anything else I REALLY need to see to get the feel of the place....

come on guys/gals....there's bound to be something that's special here...something maybe you take for granted, maybe?

Well, don't forget Nessie (Loch Ness monster) - not too far from where I stay.

Um! Vera Lynn 'White Cliffs Of Dover'.

'Dorset is beautiful,
Where-ever you go,
And the rain in the summertime,
Makes the wurzel bush grow,
'Tis pleasant to sit in the thunder an' the hail,
With your girlfriend on a turnip-stump,
To hear the sweet nightingale.'

Sorry I can only remember all of this when I'm p*ssed!
Steam trains rattling through the countryside, sadly no longer heard.
Thomas the Tank Engine stories,
The Wind In The Willows stories,
Beatrix Potter stories,
The fresh smell of rain on the garden after a shower.
Sense of humour,
Dare I say history?

Wonderful mlb3c. Many people like to go abroad for their holidays. I've never felt the need to there is so much this country has that I havn't seen yet! I expect I might be called narrow minded but I also expect someone on this site will tell me if I am......... Not very long ago I bought a dgital camera. If I can Work out how I'll post some pics of my local area. :D Hairyjon

We always have a holiday in this country once a year.

Wales is favourite, so for a while it's been Wales every other year, alternating with other places. This year we're off to Northumberland.

Do also like abroad though, but not a fan of sun & sand (or really hot weather), or skiing - city breaks are favourite - Paris, Munich, Bruges, Barcelona etc. Driving to Rennes in Brittany in a few months.

The lake district where I live is stunning too.
People often say that I probably take it for granted where I live but I never stop appreciating how lovely it is here.
Yesterday, whilst travelling about with work, I was looking at the snow capped fells and mountains, there was ice on part of the lake and I felt lucky to live and work here.

Yes, Loch Lomond is real.

As mentioned previously, the cliffs are the white cliffs of Dover, but more specifically refer to a nostalgic view of England, that everything'll be alright as long as there is an England. This was especially prevalent when the UK (but maybe more specifically England as it has always been dominant due to its size and population number) was attempting to rid the world of the worst tyranny ever to be seen. Servicemen reckoned they were back home and safe if the saw the white cliffs of Dover.

perhaps this will give you some first ideas.

Still feel like a tourist here sometimes ;)

More south coast ... Dorset beauty .... Chesil Beach viewed from Portand.

The important 'wetlands' - Somerset levels leading to Glastonbury Tor in the background.
Yep, that Glastonbury - King Arthur, Guinevere plus a latter day pop festival .....
That old question Did Joe bring the young'un here? or "And did those feet, in ancient time, walk upon England's pastures green...?"
