Old 40mm waste pipe --> new 40mm waste pipe won't fit

Just got all my push fit waste fittings to do my bathroom. The old waste pipe which I thought was 40mm is actually a bit bigger and won't fit the 40mm push fit waste fitting I have.

What exactly can I do?
