Hi,

Is there a place for the old cable colours in modern society or are the old red/black reels I have skip fodder?

if you work strictly to BS7671 then you can't use them, however there is no law requiring you to work to BS7671 and it is pretty obvious that it is safer to use them on an old install than to mix colors.

Depending on how much you have you might be able to get some money for the scrap copper and there are always dodgy DIY'ers looking to avoid notifying their work by using old cable colours so I bet you could sell it on eBay too.

not skip fodder, even old cable gets good money when scrapped for the copper.

and yes they seam to get good money on ebay, and or put an email address in your profile, you never know who might be watching (i dont mean me, i dont need a whole real lol)

Hasn't black always been a live conductor ?

It is now - since harmonisation Black is the new yellow

And Grey is the new blue oh but blue is the new black - confusing aint it

next it will be pink, yellow and brown, I read that in neopolitan magazine

Or Black, Brown and white according to Cosmopolitan

I think he meant neutral is a live conductor

I know that I was being facetious!!!

Just be glad we adapted a scheme that was loosely based on the old west europe code

Black-Phase, Blue-Neutral, Green-Earth

(anyone who has got an alphatech tester should be familiar with that... :) )

It'd been really confusing if we had all adoped the old east europe code, they too use black for phase, neutral are grey, but they make their earths red
