The husband and I have just brought our first house (1950s ex local authority) and what used to be the old storage shed for the coal has been converted into a 2nd front door which opens into a porch way and then the kitchen.
I'd like to get a downstairs WC and basin in there (size wise, its perfect) but because the soil stack is the other side of the kitchen, running a soil pipe to it would mean ripping up solid concrete flooring up.
I suggested a maceator before reading the horror stories, so have backed away at a fast pace from that idea, but can someone tell me of another way this can be done?! For a job that seemed so simple in my head, in reality it seems impossible without ruining the kitchen and spending what I fear will become a small fortune!!!

Please don't be frightened by these scare stories of macerators!

They are fine as long as you follow the rules!

Only have one if you have a normal WC in the house as well.

Do not allow any babies in nappies in the house or women under 44.

Then you will be fine!

Mine has been working without problems for last 8 years. But then I am now over 44 !

That soil pipe will need to head outside at some point to find the sewer. If you can ascertain where it runs then an external underground connection is usually perfectly feasible. If you're Northants end of Bedfordshire you shouldnt be too far from me, if you need someone to have a look.

Why women under specifically 44

Which reminds me.... Has anyone ever found a warning sticker suitable to put next to the flush of a macerator loo? Something reasonably discrete yet not ignorable.

I recall us fitting a couple of macerators during my apprenticeship, 'Turboflush' or something I think they were called. Used to come with a big yellow sticker, with 'Warning!' in large red letters, and a list of things that shouldn't be put down the toilet.

Personally I think those rules should apply to all toilets, having spent another day sorting out pump stations blocked solid with wipes and rag....
