Hello,

I’m new here and please excuse my complete lack of DIY know how.

We have just moved into a new (old) house and trying tow work out what a couple of external drainage pipes are for!

Firstly we have this old snorkel type thing and then there is also this pipe next to the down pipe which is just open! Wondering what this is and whether there should be some kind of cap/vent over it as I imagine it’s currently quite inviting to rodents.

Any advice / knowledge much appreciated. Thanks

Air vent for sewer , the other may be for down pipe but looks like it may have been rerouted to left drain. Is it blocked have you tried pouring a bucket of water down it?
Is it near kitchen?

Thank you!

No, I’ve not tried pouring water down the open one - will give that a go. Yes - the kitchen is behind that wall!
