A few years ago I bought an old GEC fridge at auction, like these groovey smeg retro things in appearance. The fridge does work quite well despite being about 40 years old but had a sticker on it saying "do not use" with a fault description saying "02 high earth bonding" I discovered this sticker after having plugged it in and run it for a few hours and have not used it since. What does the sticker mean and is it something that can be easily fixed as I want to use this lovely old thing in my new kitchen. Thanks for any advice.

Probably means that there is a fault with the earthing in the machine, maybe to do with the bonding of the metalwork.

As a start you need to get it tested to establish its basic electrical integrity.

This http://www.niceic.org.uk/specifiers/appliance.html gives you an idea of what is needed.

Cart it down to your local domestic appliance retailer/repairer and they should be able to give it the once over and report on its condition.

To summarise, the warning on the machine is telling you that a potentially dangerous/lethal fault condition exists. Get it checked out before using it.
