Hi, Im thinking of buying a Georgian terraced house. It lies 30 feet from the road which has a great deal of heavy but very slow moving traffic. Is this traffic likely to have any long term effects or will the house generally be strong enough to outlive us all. There are no serious cracks in walls - in or out.

Any reply would be a generalisation, I feel.
You'd need to know what type of land the house was built on, for one.
Obviously, in Georgian times they didn't have the traffic, so it wasn't a problem.
Nowadays...
I've seen plenty of houses built right up to the main road with no problems.
But, I've seen others on tv that have had problems.
And, have you thought about the fumes from this heavy, slow-moving traffic?
I'd go for a surveyor's advice, rather than risk your cash.
Unless there's a chance of a by-pass, I'd leave it. ;)

decent surveyurs report, but a good indication will be how long its been subjected to the traffic. If its some years then any problems should start to show, ie cracks or distortion of doorways etc. Ask the neighbours and ask the seller directly as well. 30 feet is quite a way and the road is specifiaclly designed to spread any traffic loading so it shouldnt effect the house over that distance
