Hi , first time posting so I hope it's alright.

I'm currently mid renovation of a late Victorian terrace.
I've foolishly stripped the walls out of the attic replaced with plaster board and decorated before exploring the electrics up there.

I was hoping to add a couple of double sockets. My plan was to add an Fused spur unit to the ring and spur from that.

Upon investigating the two double sockets already in the room I have discovered one has 2 cables in the back and the other has just one.

Unfortunately I have no access behind the walls so further investigation isn't really possible.

To me it seems I have a spurred socket and a further spur from that. Is this correct? If so I believe it is not within regulations.
What are my options.
I was thinking, if I install an FSU before the first socket then that should protect both of these sockets and opens up. The opportunity to spur more sockets in the room.

Am I missing something?
Thanks

You need to establish if the socket with 2 cables are part of the ring. The other socket may be spurred from a junction box.
How old is the wiring and consumer unit ? Are all circuits RCD protected ?

There is no continuity between the two cabled socket. Sorry I should have mentioned.

Hard to say how old the wiring is. The previous owners were in 50 years plus. Although the consumer unit is relatively new I have some paper work somewhere. 15 years maybe.

Never had any issues, but now I'm starting to be concerned.
Photo of consumer unit attached.

What amperage breaker protects the circuit that those sockets are connected to ? If it's the 16amp it may be a radial circuit.

It's the MCB labeled upstairs sockets.
It feeds the second floor (8 sockets) as well.
I guess i should investigate these sockets first.

A number of things, a loop impedance tester is a great help working out what feeds what, too expensive for DIY, but to hire or get an electrician with one would help work out what is what.

If spur from spur, then either a FCU or simply replace the 32 amp MCB with a 20 amp and all is safe. I have done that with a 4mm radial where some one clearly thought it was a ring final and tried to extend with 2.5 mm cable.

So there are ways to work around what you have. First clearly you need to work out what you have.
