i've just had the bolier looked at by an engineer. It's the first time in three years, but he's told me it's cheaper to replace it then to repair it. Its about 15 years old. I think the model number is vcw 804135gb, it's on a leaflet i found.

Anyway the first problem is the switch is faulty. This means that the boiler fires up throughout the day to heat the water. when he took the front off, above the pump was a small cream coloured device and both was rusty and corroding. approx cost of pump was £200+ . the switch he pointed out to me was in the left hand side of the bolier and would be £70ish also the kitchen unitnext to it would have to be removed to replace it.

Also the boiler when being used clicks. he said it was the gas valve and pointed to something just below the pilot light.

Anyway all in all he said around 350-400. the boiler has 7 radiators connected to it and we use it for hot water. the house is a 1930 3 bed semi.
After asking him to quote me for a replacement eqivalent valliant supplied and fitted the figure was 1300-1400.

what should i do and if it does need replacing which boiler should i go for.
sorry if the post is a bit long but ive tried to put everything in i can remeber.
