hello all,

i have one cold radiator in the kitchen that has cold pipes either side.

i have bled all the other radiators in the house and they seem fine.

the thing that worries me is that both the pipes in the cold radiator are also cold, when i bleed it cold water flows out.

would an air block do this ?

strangely enough i have the british gas 'it was only 15 quid a month!' cover; phoned them and they only come out if 2 radiators don't work.

i thought i would try to remedy it myself before i phone again.

any help greatly appreciated

many thanks and seasons greetings to all

Steve

I am not a plumber or heating engineer, our "resident" engineers will not be about untill later but they wil want more information

what type of system (do you have an "airing cupboard")

make model of boiler

has anything been changed recently

when did this start

anything else you think may help (no matter how small)

in the mean time you may like to search under "cold radiators" something to do with turning other rads down to force flow, but as i said i am not a plumber or heating engineer

i have also increased the pressure as it was at about .5 bar. i have increased this to between 1 and 1.5 bar as recomended by the manual and am in the process of bleeding the radiators again.

do you know if i have to bleed them in any particular order ?

many thanks

Steve

to my amazement (and my wife's ;)) !

we have Terrier II thermostats on all the radiators and taking this off (as a lst resort) by just unscrewing it caused the radiator to fill with hot water.

one final question though ...

would it be better to replace all of the thermostats (Terrier II) as this is the third to have failed in the 5 years we've had the system ?

what would i replace them with ?

do i just replace the unit (trying hard to to say 'twisty thing' !) or the joint it is connected to ?

many thanks for the reply and thanks for the forum. it's been a whole lot more use than British Gas were

I bet you know more than this and are just being modest.

I start on the upstairs ones, except for the times I start downstairs. Since it can take a couple of weeks to get the air out of some systems, it probably doesn't matter which comes first.

To work out which bits to change you could swap 2 heads over and see if the problem moves. Also see if the pins on the valves move freely when pressed.

If you have to change them, I have been impressed by the build of Caleffi valves. They are well engineered IMO.
